As we all know, June is celebrated as Pride month worldwide. This month is a great month to celebrate the equal rights of the LGBTQ community. Pride month is a call for acceptance and celebration of identity.  As an ally, I have come out as a supporter.

Pride month every year brings us a month full of opportunities to celebrate the impact and importance of acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual, and all the other queer orientations. We need to recognize the impact this diverse rainbow community has had on our local community, nation, and global community.

Even though the threat of COVID-19 is not as huge as it was in the last two years, there’s still the need to be cautious, not only for us but for our loved ones as well.

To help you celebrate pride month, safely, here are the 12 best ideas and ways to celebrate pride month (virtually and non-virtually).

1. Zoom Pride Backgrounds

If you’re still working from home or simply attending meetings from your office conference rooms, you can now set Zoom pride backgrounds. To celebrate pride month as an ally, change your background to your favorite pride background. If you’re new to this, you can try:

• Pride parade
• Quotes about equality and love

If you’re using social media, you can show your support by changing your profile pictures or backgrounds. Moreover, you can also share those pictures with your other ally friends in a story or post format so that they also celebrate pride month with pride! Bingo has become everyone’s favorite game during the initial lockdown and the craze to play online bingo hasn’t faded over time. In the last two years, the best way to spread awareness or queer history lessons was through social media platforms. Let’s continue doing this in 2024 as well. Even with the threat of the COVID-19 virus being subdued, there’s still a risk of re-joining outdoor, crowded activities. If you’re worried about the virus still and avoid engaging in crowded events, then you can celebrate pride month your way by attending webinars on LGBTQ awareness and connecting with queer communities and chat rooms on all social media platforms.

6. Share resources related to the LGBTQ community for awareness

Apart from social media platforms, you can take the help of online newspapers or other mediums to share resources related to the LGBTQ+ community for awareness. If your country or state is virus-free and is organizing physical pride parades or events for the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate pride month then you can attend and provide support as much as you can.

To celebrate pride month as an ally, you can also support the LGBTQ+ community by educating others and raising support for the rainbow community and their allies.

3. Become an advocate

Another way to celebrate pride month is to advocate for others and your friends related to the problems faced by the LGBTQ+ community. I think this is the best way to celebrate pride month and to spread awareness for the queer community.

4. Educate yourself and share resources in your workplace

There might be some people who have no idea about the LGBTQ+ community; therefore you can educate them by sharing resources at your workplace. A way to celebrate pride month as an ally, especially at your workplace is to get pride flags and display them on your desk. If you’re still working from home, then you can add the pride flag to your status this month.

Pro Tip: There are many pride flags you can choose from! You can either use the new rainbow pride flag, the straight ally flag, or the pride flag of the community your loved one, friend, family member, or coworker belongs to and display it on your work desk!
