5 Mental Wellness Tips To Keep In Mind This ‘Mental Wellness Month’
Wellness in the last few years has taken a new look, and a new meaning. We’re now realizing that wellness isn’t just another form of unwinding and unplugging from the world to take care of our needs but also something that we truly need in our day-to-day lives. While wellness can be broken down into eight dimensions, we’re paying special attention to mental wellness this whole month!
Why? You see, January is ‘Mental Wellness Month’ and that means that this whole month is dedicated to protecting and promoting your mental wellness.
Not just mental wellness, the whole concept of “wellness” can be divided into dimensions such as;
- Emotional health
- Environmental health
- Financial health
- Intellectual health
- Holistic health
- Social health
- Physical health
- Occupational health
When I say, “Mentally well”, I mean the way we allow our minds to be aligned with our bodies to work functionally and in the best possible way. It means that we are thinking, feeling, and behaving in a way that is positively impacting our overall health.
Mental wellness means taking care of not only our mental and emotional health but also taking care and being kind to the other aspects of our well-being. By doing this, we increase our resilience, manage stress, and fight against the symptoms of other mental health disorders.
This month, we’re celebrating mental wellness, and what better way than by understanding the importance of mental wellness and learning tips for good mental well-being?
The Importance Of Mental Wellness
Mental wellness plays an important part in ensuring that we live a positive, confident, and happy life. By taking care of mental wellness we can stay in control of our thoughts, emotions, and actions that, in turn, help us to handle challenging situations, foster relationships, and build resilience.
Having good mental wellness helps us:
- Understand our skills and abilities
- Cope with our stressors in a healthy way
- Promote productivity at work and in life
- Give back to our community
“The more you take care of your mental wellness, the more you’ll thrive.”
Celebrate Mental Wellness Month by following These Mental Wellness Tips!
As seasons change and we move into a new year, numerous challenges accompany us. These hurdles we seem to face at every step of the way only seem to increase as each year passes. This new year, we’re beginning afresh and if the last year taught me anything, it was that what I need to keep doing to make myself happy and satisfied.
As I step into this new year, I vow to employ self-care and mental wellness tips to help me unburden my stress and I’m sure I’ll keep practicing these tips as the year progresses as well.
As we leave another stressful year behind, here are some of the wellness tips for mental health that I assure will help you (as they’ve helped me) power through your challenges and whatever stress you face;
#Tip 1: Stay Positive
Maintaining a positive attitude is a sure-fire way to stay happy, confident, and successful. When you keep a positive attitude, you’re more likely to handle challenging and stressful situations in a more efficient way. The one thing that goes along with a positive attitude is being grateful. When you are thankful for what you have instead of what you could have, you’re more likely to be happy and enjoy the little moments.
Be thankful for the good things in your life than focusing on the negative things.
#Tip 2: Laugh Out Loud
The phrase “Laughter is the best medicine” is true! The more you laugh, the less you’ll be distressed. Humor is a wonderful way to reduce stress and stay healthier. Did you know that, in India, one of the mental wellness “trends” is ‘Laughter Therapy’? Various studies have shown that laughter releases endorphins, our body’s natural painkiller, burns calories, relaxes our mind & body, and helps you live longer.
Laugh out loud every day to boost your mood and mental health!
#Tip 3: Every Day Is An Opportunity
When you look at your challenges as an opportunity, it helps you improve your creative thinking and expand your intellectual ability to handle stressful situations. When we view our challenges and problems as a means to learn and improve, it not only helps us become more aware of our problem-solving skills but it also helps us gain confidence in our skills and abilities.
#Tip 4: Eat Well, Rest Well, Be Well
Eating a well-balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber can help you maintain good and fit physical and mental health. I noticed that whenever I was stressed in the last year, I craved sugar and caffeine-related products which in turn fed my stress rather than help me reduce it. Additionally, stress causes us to change our sleep patterns which in the long-term can affect our mental wellness.
The next time you’re stressed, try going on a walk or engage in physical activity of your choice. I found that by going on a nature walk, not only I got some fresh air but it also helped me clear my mind and focus on the present moment.
#Tip 5: Ask For Help When Stuck
Seeking help or a shoulder to lean on when needed can be very beneficial for your mental wellness. There are times when stress and daily life can become too overwhelming. In such cases, asking for help from people who you care about and who care about you is a good thing!

Mental Wellness Shouldn’t be Taken Lightly…
“When admiring other people’s gardens, don’t forget to tend to your own flowers.” – Sanober Khan
No matter where you are or what you’re doing, taking care is and should always be your priority. How will you take care of your family, work, and life, if you’re not taking care of yourself?
Take some time off to care for yourself and savor the little moments in life that make you happy. Slow down, you don’t have to do everything in one day. Break down your tasks and take a break when you need it.
Taking some ‘me time’ isn’t something you should feel guilty about. Sometimes the best thoughts come when you are in your own company.
Take a break, focus on yourself, and let go of your worries! And most importantly, don’t forget to take care of yourself.
