5 Lessons We Should Learn From A Mental Breakdown
Mental Breakdown!
These two words look like a horror story! Don’t they? But, what if I tell you that you can change it into a learning phase instead? Sounds weird and surreal, doesn’t it? Trust me when I say that there is a lot to learn about yourself and your life after having a mental breakdown.
“In order to rise above from its ashes, a Phoenix must first burn.”
Taking inspiration from this quote let the journey of healing begin.
Here are the top 5 lessons that I learned from my emotional breakdown
You Understand Your Wants (And Focus on Them)
A mental breakdown teaches you what is really important for you. Despite running after temporary sources of happiness and joy you will look for meaningful aspects of your life. Not only will your journey of finding the meaning begin but you will find yourself even more focused than ever before. Because mental breakdown comes as a lesson to teach you what really matters in life and what you really need to stay strong in your life.
Trust me through lockdown you will learn what you are good at is best for you and everyone around you.
Self-care Doesn’t Look Selfish
In our lives, we are always trying to take care of others, love them, be compassionate, and empathetic towards them. But are we doing the same for ourselves? Probably not! Because we generally believe that self-care, self-love, self-compassion, and more such concepts are overrated and selfish. Going through a mental breakdown can help you realize the importance of all these self-related concepts. It will also help you understand that you can’t really show these emotions and feelings towards others if you can’t have it for yourself.

You Learn To Let It Go
“Holding on looks pretty on the outside but it is painful on the inside. And when this pain starts to temper your inner peace, that’s when you should stop holding on to it.”
~ Anjali Singh
This is one of the most important lessons that mental breakdown taught me. That I am holding onto a lot of things in my life that aren’t doing much good by staying in my life. You might not be able to let them go as of now but mental breakdown will give you the courage to let such people, thoughts, and emotions leave your ally. Thus, helping you heal and creating a beautiful space around you.
Happiness Is Seen As a Process
Mental breakdown helps us understand that happiness is not an end goal that we can achieve by performing a set task rather it is a continuous process. And each day of our life we have to wake up and strive each day to explore happiness in life. So, whatever is making you happy and the moment that is making you feel happy just embrace it and enjoy it to the fullest but don’t stop or get stuck on that point only. Keep moving in life. Remember life even better. is not a straight line, the mental breakdown will help you learn it and apply the same learning to your life.
You Become More Grateful
Did you know there are so many in our lives that we take granted for? Your pillow, that planter placed on your top, the sky over your head, and a lot! Most importantly you never take your mental health for granted. Mental breakdown teaches you to practice gratitude in your life on a daily basis. With you being grateful your feelings of being victimized is replaced with a stream of fullness, vitality, and appreciation.
You can turn hard times to good times all you need is courage and a different perspective!
So, next time when you go through a mental breakdown don’t look at the sky and yell “Why ME?” rather turn it into a learning journey. Take your mental breakdown as an opportunity to become the best version of yourself.
