Unfortunately, stress has become a part of our lives and there is no way to escape stressful situations. What is worse than having to deal with stress all day? Having  Stress dreams, it’s awful when stress doesn’t let you have a peaceful sleep.

Stress dreams are those dreams where you’re living a stressful situation in your dream, therefore, your mind doesn’t get to rest at all. In fact, many people wake up feeling stressed and then have to deal with regular stressful situations.

That means you’re stuck in a cycle where you’re never stress-free. You’re stressed during the day and stress doesn’t leave you alone even when you fall asleep. Many people can’t sleep when they have a lot of stress, imagine falling asleep after a long struggle and ending up having a stressful dream.

It’s completely fine to not be able to win all your battles, process then properly is very important. However, when stress starts to take over your life, you’re most likely to have stress dreams. Let’s look at some common causes of having stress dreams;

  • Not being able to achieve something you’ve been working really hard for
  • Running out of time to complete something really important
  • Perhaps you’ve misplaced something really important (documents, passport, etc)
  • You’ve performed really badly lately
  • You’ve recently had your trust broken
  • You’ve traveled with someone who risked your life
  • You’ve been in a natural calamity or a traumatic event

These are just some situations that might make you experience stress-induced dreams. What really causes stress dreams is the amount and intensity of stress you experience during your awake hours. When your mind is completely occupied with stressful thoughts throughout the day, it only makes sense to dream about what you’ve been thinking all day.

How To Stop Having Stress Dreams?

To stop having stress dreams you really need to figure out a way to get rid of the stress. In today’s day and age, we can’t escape stressful situations but we definitely can learn to manage stress so that it doesn’t control our life.

There are no huge and complex strategies to stop stress dreams from happening. All you need to do is attend to your stress but do not let stress attend you. The reins should be in your hands and here’s how you can do that;

  • Learn stress management techniques: the main cause of having stress dreams is being in stress for a prolonged period of time. If you want your stress dreams to stop, learn stress management techniques so that you can reduce the influence of stress on you.
  • Have a better sleep schedule: being able to sleep peacefully is very, very important but stress dreams make it impossible. Therefore, it’s important to have a good sleep routine. For Eg. no screen time before bed, keeping the lights dim, finishing dinner at least 2-3 hours before bedtime, etc.
  • Journal before bed: the reason you’re experiencing stress dreams is that your thoughts are full of stress and letting them out before you sleep is important. By journaling, you will be able to let go of your stressful thoughts and you’ll be able to get clarity before you sleep.
  • Try bedtime yoga: yoga is one way you can relax your mind as well as your body. Make sure you take out some time from your busy schedule and learn some bedtime yoga practices. These yoga poses will relax your muscles and keep stress away from your sleep.
  • Meditate before you sleep: meditation can help you get into a zen mode, helping you overcome stressful thoughts. Meditation will not only help you sleep better but also help you manage stress better.
