Are You Feeling Off Track in Life? Try These 5 Ways to Get Back On Track
Our life is like a journey. We all have our ups and downs going in our life. However, while we generally bounce back from adverse life situations sometimes we get derailed. I guess most of you will agree with me when I say that we all experience this feeling of being off track in life.
Even I feel off track in life from time to time. I start to question myself “what am I doing?” “Where is my life heading?” and more such thoughts come my way and boom I am derailed. (Does that happen with you as well? Let me know in the comments section).
Well, the good news is that I was able to find some ways that help me get back on track.
So here I am sharing with you myself-tried and therapist-recommended ways that will help you get back on track in your life.
5 Ways to Get Back on Track in Life
1. Create a Motivating Environment
According to decluttering experts, your surroundings have a big role to play in how you feel, think, and act. Interestingly, it can even motivate you. So make sure that your environment is designed to attract success and get you back on track. Here are some tips that might help you:
- Declutter your space and give your mind a place to think clearly.
- Organize your desk and let it positively influence you.
- Add a positive plant or other aesthetic elements that will radiate motivation.
2. Connect With Someone
We often feel sidetracked as we end forgetting what amazing things we are capable of and how far we have come in our lives. That is why getting a reminder of the same and a push to get back on track is indeed required.
What can be better at this job than someone who knows you? So connect with a loved one, confront them how you have been feeling, and they are sure to make you feel better. This feeling of being heard and reduced pain will not only offer you comfort but will also fuel up your energy to get back on track!
If you don’t want to confront someone you can always imagine or think of someone with whom you idolize or connect the most. I will be very honest with you. There are some days when I feel I don’t want to study or get up and put myself through a 9-5 schedule but then I just think of my grandpa. Just imagining him I get a push, and I am back on track because I know he would be happy to see me that way. That works for me, give it a shot, and let me know if you find this personal tip helps you get back on track.
3. Coach Yourself
Who can be a teacher or the driving force to get you back on track than yourself? Yes, buddy, you got this! After all, at the end of the day you have to work on yourself, for yourself, then why not do it on your own? So here are the best ways in which you can coach yourself and get back on track after feeling derailed.
Write down your goals in a journal. It will help you regain your focus and gain clarity. Some questions that you can answer while journaling and tapping on your thoughts:
- What am I really going for – what’s my goal?
- How come this is my goal?
- What sort of person do I want to become?
- What happens next?
Start building a growth and learning mindset. It will help you look at the situation in a whole different light than thinking of it as a failure. This will also make you realize your potential.
4. Let Visualization Take the Front Seat
Visualization is such a powerful tool. It is like a bridge between you and what you want from your life. Don’t believe me? Wait, let me share an interesting study done by Dr. Dean Ornish on people with blocked arteries. He divided patients with blocked arteries into two groups.
Group 1 would visualize each day for 15 days that their arteries are opening up and they are healing, along with medication. On the other hand, patients in group 2 were only given medication. After 2 weeks, it was seen that patients of group 1 had their blocked arteries healed at a faster pace as compared to group 2. Now imagine, if visualization can treat a health condition how effectively it can help you get back on track.
Sit down in a comfortable space and visualize how far you have come, what all things you need to work on, and now visualize them happening in your life. Visualize your goals, visualize your paths of reaching that goal, and visualize how it will make you when you achieve that goal.
Slowly, you will get back on track with this visualization. You may also make a vision board and keep reminding yourself of things that you have to achieve.
Along with this, visualize that you are physiologically backed with energy so that your body is not lousy or making you feel weak. Remember our mind, body, and emotions are closely interlinked.
5. Focus on Little Things
A few days back a friend of mine shared a post with me on Instagram. It said you are not what you think. You are also what you eat, the people you vibe with, and the information you consume. This means that instead of only focusing on the big things and steps discussed above, you should be focusing on the little things too. Here is a checklist of these little things that will help you get back on track:
- Keep yourself hydrated.
- Get enough sunlight.
- Avoid consuming the trigger foods.
- Maintain healthy boundaries.
- Exercise and burn fat.
- Have a healthy morning routine.
Apart from it, you can just simply apply the 10 rules of Ikigai in your life. Personally, they work like “a fix-me-up formula.” To read more about it (especially, when you feel off track) click here.
To wrap it up, thank you so much for acknowledging your feelings and accepting the fact that yeah, I haven’t been on track recently! Now it is time for you to work on the ways that will help you get back on track.
Well, we all feel off track in life from time to time, but what matters is how we choose to get back on it. Remember, when life doesn’t go as planned, you might not be able to choose your situation, but you can surely choose how to react.
Good luck!
