How to Find Your WHY in Life (And Why is It so Important)
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” — Mark Twain
Every time I journal, there are a slew of questions that come to my mind, but one question always stands out. “Why do I do whatever I do?” I’ve never been able to find the right answer to this question. On the surface, the question seems simple, right? But, being an inquisitive being I like dissecting even the simplest questions as much as possible.
Going through life, the one thing that stands out the most to me is “WHY”. It’s that query that resonates with the core of our being, driving us toward our life purpose and direction. We’re all driven by motivation. They are the guiding stars of our actions, shaping how we act, what we do, and why we do it.
Whether it’s conscious or subconscious, motivations are the fuel that propels us forward in life. Without an understanding of our motivations, you risk drifting in the sea of life aimlessly and disconnected from your true purpose and self.
So, do you know what motivates you in life? Do you know WHY? Let’s find it together in this article.
What is Your WHY in Life?
In essence, your “why” is the reason behind your life, the driving force behind your passions and goals. It’s more than just a fleeting desire or an impulse; it’s the primary purpose that gives meaning to your life and shapes your identity.
You can define your WHY statements to align your actions with your values and aspirations. For some people, their “why” could be about making a positive impact in their community or pursuing the career of their dreams. Others, on the other hand, might find their “why” in creating meaningful relationships or working on self-improvement.
